ITS China: ITS—Intelligent Transport Systems applies advanced information technology, data communication and transmission technology, electronic control technology, computer technology and intelligent vehicle technology to the entire transportation management system. It can collect, transmit and process traffic information in real time and handle various traffic situations aided by scientific and technological means and equipment. Thus a real - time, accurate and efficient comprehensive transportation management system has been established, improving intelligent service and realizing intensive transportation.
As a systematic project, intelligent transportation system needs the cooperation of relevant government departments, industry and R&D institutions. Most developed countries in the world have relevant intelligent transportation associations: ITS America, ERTICO-ITS Europe and ITS Japan. They are responsible for coordinating transportation in Americas, Europe, Africa, and Asia- Pacific region respectively.
In March 2007, the Ministry of Science and Technology formally applied for the establishment of the “China Intelligent Transportation Systems Association (ITS China)”. The Ministry of Civil Affairs approved the application in November 2007. On May 14, 2008, the founding assembly and the first plenary session of the board of directors of ITS China were held in Beijing, and the ITS China was officially established.
